Leaves of Hope · 30 May 2012

It works with children in Belarus, preventing them from being abandoned and improving the environment in orphanages for those who have been abandoned. It also works with disaffected youth in Britain, involving them in the refurbishment projects and giving them a greater understanding of the world in relation to their own environment and needs. The 'Belarus Experience' empowers young people to believe in them selves and have pride in what they have achieved by helping those less fortunate than themselves.

Story

Leaves of Hope Project

On the 25th July 2012, The Innovate Project (Caerphilly CBC Youth Services Project) will be supporting a group of young people from the Caerphilly Borough area on a charitable trip to Belarus. The group of young people will be joining the ‘Leaves of Hope’ Charity, travelling on the 3,000-mile return journey to Minsk. They will be working at Zhordina Orphanage, home to over 90 three to six year old orphans. This project will not only give the orphans a better standard of life, but will change the lives of the seven young people from Caerphilly CBC who will be joining the trip.

Throughout our 10 day stay in Belarus our aim is to build and decorate a new wing in the orphanage, and any remaining funds raised will pay for a summer play scheme project for the orphans and the workers. I can’t emphasise enough how much this will change the lives of young people who are volunteering.

Success story

A disengaged young person with behaviour issues volunteered from Aberbargoed to go to Belarus. This young person was on the verge of going to prison and was socially excluded from his community. However the trip to Belarus turned this person’s life around. He now is working for a charity in Kenya giving up his time to change people’s lives. This trip inspired this young person and he is now making a positive impact on the world. It literally changed his life.

The most important, yet difficult job for us is to raise money. The young people are very enthusiastic and dedicated; they have worked extremely hard fundraising the past few weeks and any support you can offer would be much appreciated.
