Story

Updated!!

Since January, 2012, I have proudly watched three of my four children train for the Brighton marathon. Disaster struck however, following the half marathon Katie and Jay ran when Katie suffered a serious leg injury resulting in her having to withdraw from the big one. Following a night out with the family, ( I can't remember how many pints I had consumed at the time!!!) I, Garry, (aka "the old man",) volunteered to take Katie's place and have stepped into her shoes, (well, the pretty pink didn't quite suit my complexion, so I have bought some new ones to go with my Near Naked running top, which Jay assures me will arrive soon. So, with four weeks to go, I am now part of the family trio of runners - I'm the good looking one with a smart 6 pack (or maybe Katie's two fig leaves!!)

We have decided to run the Brighton Marathon (all 26.2miles of it) on Sunday, 15th April 2012, for the Male Cancer Awareness Charity, which was founded by @mrtesticals on Twitter.

As many of you who know us, cancer has played a massive part in our lives over the last eight years; giving us an incredibly hard time firstly, when it claimed my beautiful wife, Christine, and the kid's mum from us, to a prouder moment when Jay, my oldest son, battled through testicular cancer - for the second time in three years. He is a testament to Christine's amazing strength and character and we are all incredibly proud of him, as is Christine, wherever she is now.

This is a HUGE challenge for all three of us, who are currently training extremely hard, (Katie was training especially hard before having to give up ) and we are merrily putting in the miles! We know that times are hard for everyone but we would really appreciate any donations made, be it large or small.

Thanks again to you all and we sincerely hope that some of you can join us at the finish line for a pint or two, a back rub, a long awaited donar kebab, a packet of jam donuts and a few pork pies!!!
