If you have ever marvelled as I consume my second pastry for breakfast or down my fourth shot of tequila at the end of a night out, and thought ‘I’d pay good money to see Jayde run a marathon’… well now you can!

I am running the 2010 marathon for a number of reasons. To get fit… to show off as soon I have caught my breath after the finishing line… to distract myself from the fact that I will be entering the post-25 age bracket…

But mostly I am doing it to raise at least £1800 for an excellent charity and fantastic cause. Refuge provides emergency accommodation for women and children at risk of domestic violence. Thousands of women and children are failed by state services every year when it comes to domestic violence; it’s not an exaggeration to say that charities such as Refuge give them a chance of survival. And this is an issue that is close to a number of people very dear to me.

So please give generously to support me and this cause. I am asking for £26 – a pound a mile – but appreciate whatever you can afford. Also please keep an eye out for fundraising events that I will be doing and updates on how the training is going!

Here is what your money could buy:

£20 could provide one woman with an ‘emergency pack’ of basic toiletries and food.  When women arrive at a refuge following a violent assault, with nothing other than the clothes they are wearing, items like this help them get back on their feet.

£50 could pay for a psychologist to support two abused children, helping them to come to terms with the trauma of witnessing or experiencing domestic violence.

£60 could help our independent domestic violence advocates secure an injunction to protect a woman at high risk of violence from being harassed by an abusive partner

£100 could support Refuge’s education work, helping us to ensure that a woman experiencing domestic violence knows where to get life-saving support.

£120 could allow an outreach worker to visit one woman in her home or a safe location, helping her to plan for her safety and advising on practical issues such as housing and employment.

Thank you!
