We are using our cycling holiday to help raise money for Kidney Research with which Jean has been closely involved. We hope to keep you updated throughout the journey via e-mail.
We all depart by bicycle from home on 3rd Sept. and travel across to Heysham(Nr. Morecombe) and cross to the Isle of Man and Dublin. We then cycle down the west coast of Ireland to Roslare where we get the ferry to Rosscoff in Brittany(thus cutting out the busy south of England).
We cycle along the Brest - Nantes canal for approx. 3days and cross the Loire at St. Nazaire before travelling along the west coast of France to Bordeaux and south again to Duras.
We hope to complete the Journey in approx, 3 wks.(Approx. 800mls)

Stuck in the Isle of Man!!!
After two challenging days leaving Wylam and crossing the Pennines via Hartside and negotiating the rugged hills of Cumbria,we had a leisurely ride to Heysham in the late summer sunshine. It all started to change as we left the shores with Blackpool Tower silhouetted against the sky. The winds picked up til they were at gale force by evening resulting in the catamaran to Dublin being cancelled this morning. We are keeping our fingers crossed for tomorrow. Its an early start so we should be able to do the 50 miles required to get to Arklow tomorrow night. Sadly we will have to see Dublin another time.

Thursday 16th Sept
Hello again, this time from France: We had a sunny and rainy ride through Ireland; very busy roads but considerate drivers. The Guiness was tops. Good night in Wexford with live music. Happy to get a well earned rest on the ferry to Roscoff overnight. Next day we paid for our leisure with a ride similar to Hartside !! Rather unexpected but we managed. Brittany continued rather in this vein and we crossed the massive bridge at st Nazaire over the Loire two days ago. In the Vendee after 500 miles of pedalling. Shouid reach La Rochelle tomorrow.Cheerio for now
