The challenge is to walk from Tynemouth to Bowness over 3.5 days.  That's approximately 87 miles. 

The organisers of the challenge are my employer Ostara Systems Ltd.  Ostara Systems Ltd. has always been involved with charities and this year our charity is a local charity working hard to help struggling families in Milton Keynes.

For me personally, walking long distances over several days is not a feat I would usually be up for.  I'm not known for my love of walking.  In fact, I never walk if I can help it.  I even drive to my local shop which is less than 5 minutes’ walk away from my house. 

I signed up on the spur of the moment, caught up in the general enthusiasm around the office.  When what I had done sank in, I had to wonder if I needed to have my head examined.  The idea of me walking more than fifteen miles a day for four days straight seemed ludicrous.  When the organiser told me that Day 2 was marathon distance and Day 3 was almost marathon distance, I felt physically sick and very nearly withdrew there and then.  However, instead, I got together with the other guys who had signed up and started training.  We have been walking together every weekend for several months.  A few of us even got our lazy selves back into the gym.  It's been very tough and my feet hate my guts but I am no longer just imagining the possibility; I am actually doing it in less than two weeks.
