Story

Hi!

I'm back again trying out another challenge to raise more money for my charity, Ataxia UK, which is a charity very close to my heart!

People with ataxia have problems with their balance, movement and speech. I've inherited ataxia and will be affected by it later on in life but the real reason that I want to raise money and awareness of ataxia is because of my lovely mother who has had this little known condition for a number of years now and will do for the rest of her life.

Last year she took a turn for the worse and it turned out that not only is she disabled by this condition but her mind has also been affected, much in a similar way to dementia. It came as a shock to us all as we didn't realise that her particular type of ataxia, and there are many different types, would cause her to become so confused and basically, not all there. There's currently no cure for ataxia and she will never get better, but the charity is working hard to find a cure every day.

So while I've still got the use of my legs and my wits about me, the challenge I've set myself is to trek along part of the Inca Trail in Peru, where the highest point I will reach is 4445m high! Not only will this be knackering, trekking for days on end at high altitude, but I won't even have the luxury of a hotel to stay in, only a small tent, and I'm not a huge fan of camping at the best of times!

I know times are hard but even just a small donation will be gratefully received. Every little helps towards funding research into finding treatments and a cure for ataxia, and also provides support for those with ataxia and those around them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Wish me luck!
