After a little bit of a medical disaster in New York at the start of September, I have had surgery on my foot & can't do any exercise for three weeks. I will be running the Bath half marathon on 11/3/12 as my replacement event - same distance, same cause, and hopefully two running feet instead of one! Thank you so much for sponsoring me...I promise to run the whole way xx
I am running the Nike Run to the Beat London Half Marathon in September for ME Research UK on behalf of my younger sister Linda who has suffered with severe ME for the last ten years.
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), sometimes referred to as ME/CFS, is a chronic neurological illness. Symptoms can have a very disabling impact on every day life and include severe long term fatigue that does not go away with sleep or rest, post exertional malaise, pain, muscle weakness, as well as a number of neurological symptoms.
Growing up we were both really sporty and healthy, until one day Linda suffered from a virus and never got better. Having ME has meant that she has been house bound for much of the last ten years, and as a sister it's been very difficult and upsetting to see her unable to get out of bed during the worst times, use all the energy she has to see friends only briefly during the times she is feeling a little bit better, and know that she's missing out on having the freedom to do whatever she wants without having an illness holding her back.
Not only is there no known cause of ME, there is also no known cure. ME Research UK focus on fundraising for biomedical research which would not otherwise be funded, and could benefit ME sufferers and their families.
Despite having never run 13 miles (or anywhere close) before, I really hope you'll support me!
Love, Jen
