Virgin London Marathon 2012 · 22 April 2012 ·

Our belief in health as a basic human right drives everything we do. That’s why we work with remote and marginalised communities to find sustainable solutions. We are African-led and therefore our understanding of the communities we work with, and the health challenges they face, is unparalleled.

Story

<p> <p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">Hello folks</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">Thanks for visiting this lovely little page with a big target.</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">I've been enticed into marathon action by London hosting the Olympics this year and (unrealistic) dreams of a fantastic time for my first marathon. &nbsp;I'm all about Sunday 22nd April, training plans, good socks and the 26.2 miles that I'm sure will be quite an experience.</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">I'm running the marathon to raise funds for AMREF. &nbsp;AMREF's work is really important to me and back in 2005 my experience of working with AMREF in Kenya made me change my career into working in international development. &nbsp;Having then spent 3.5 years working for AMREF I know the real difference the organisation makes to women, children and families in Africa. &nbsp;AMREF is a truly African organisation that works in the really hard to reach areas, working with communities that many others don't reach. &nbsp; The photos I've put on this page are from a visit to Ethiopia where we travelled 2 days by road and then even farther off road to reach families that were benefiting from AMREF's work.</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">I'm also running the marathon in memory of a dear AMREF colleague and friend who lost his life early this year in South Sudan - Dr Alemayehu Seifu.</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">Massive thanks for any support you can offer.</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">Jen</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">Here's more info about AMREF if you want to take a look&nbsp;http://www.amrefuk.org/</span></p> <p style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="background-color: #ffffff; color: #b71e28; line-height: 1.4em;"><span style="font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;">The African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) is Africa&rsquo;s leading health development organisation, bringing good quality health care closer to those who need it most.</span></span></p> </p> </p>
