London BUPA 10K - 2013 · 27 May 2013 ·

Each year the Central London Branch of the RSPCA helps around 1,500 cats, dogs, rabbits and other animals. One of our main activities is running a cat neutering scheme, which helps people who cannot afford vets' fees, to have their animals neutered. This service is available in the Greater London area, with the support of other RSPCA branches and other charities. We also do as much as we can to help animals in distress, and find them permanent or temporary homes. We are a separate charity from RSPCA Headquarters with responsibility for raising funds to pay for the work that we do. We constantly apply our funds to help as many animals as possible in the Branch area.

Story

Some of you will know that I've been involved with RSPCA Central London since we adopted our kittens Meg and Mog 3 and a half years ago. Meg and Mog were 5 weeks old and had been abandoned along with their 2 siblings without their mum, thanks to the RSPCA they were taken in & rehomed and have spent the last few years living the life of riley in north London.  Not all cats are as lucky as them.

Our RSPCA London Branch is run by volunteers. Whilst we get some help from the main RSPCA headquarters, we are a separate charity, with responsibility for raising funds to pay for the work that we do.

We've got a lot to be proud of in our branch - amoung other things, we help run a neutering scheme for people on low incomes, run a fostering network for older and hard to rehome cats, and have an emergency fostering centre in north London which saw over 1,500 animals pass through its doors last year alone. However the situation seems to be increasingly desperate and we are full to bursting with animals needing homes and with kitten season fast approaching this is only set to increase.

It costs us approximately £50 a week to look after a nursing mum cat and kittens, so my aim is to raise £300 for the branch, which will give 3 nursing mum cats and their kittens two weeks of care and safety at our unit.

Thank you so much for your support, it really does mean a lot to me.  We are desperate for good homes for cats and kittens too, so please get in touch if you're thinking of adopting.
