Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2007 I was stressed, tired, anxious, nervous and fidgety. My hands shook, I couldn't get up the stairs without huffing and puffing, and everything felt overwhelming. I blamed work, too much caffeine, and general grumpiness, and hoped it would all go away.
I was finally persuaded to visit the doctor when my heart was racing (again) after nothing more strenuous than getting into bed. He parcelled me off to A&E, and I was diagnosed with Graves Disease.
Several years and several rounds of tablets later, it was obvious something more would need to be done. After much agonising and lots of great information from the British Thyroid Foundation, I decided on surgery. My thyroid was removed at Christmas, and I've actually felt like a human being ever since.
Thyroids are one of those things that you never realise you have until they start going wrong, and they can cause all kinds of trouble. Knowing what can go wrong, and what you can do, is vital, especially when you feel like there's nothing 'specific' wrong with you.
