I am taking part in a joint venture between Greater Manchester Police and the charity Retrak. Retrak helps to assist children in Africa who are living on the streets due to circumstances beyond their control.

The children have ended up on the streets due to a variety of reasons including extreme poverty, abuse, HIV/AIDS and war and famine. They are living on the fringes of society and have no access to the basic amenities we all take for granted.

Retrak assists the children to return to their families wherever possible. In the cases where children cannot be returned they are cared for at shelters where they are given food, clothing, medical attention and most importantly a feeling of self worth. They are then fostered to families who will care for them.

I am travelling to Ethiopia in November along with 20 other volunteers to work with the street children and to experience their way of life.

Until I leave in November 2010 I will be busy fundraising so that Retrak can build a new shelter. The existing one in Ethiopia is very overcrowded and there are lots of children needing help.

That's why I am asking for your help! Please donate as much as you can afford. It doesn't matter how small you think the amount is: it will all be gratefully received... I can't do it on my own!
