This page is to raise money for the spinal unit of Stoke Mandeville Hospital, in memory of my sister, Antonia Jones, who had a brilliant academic career, despite being in a wheelchair from the age of 10. Thanks to the work of Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where she was a patient in the 1950s, she was able to live life to the full, teaching many generations of undergraduates, publishing important research and supervising PhD students. She ended her career as Professor Emerita of Evolutionary and Neural Computation at Cardiff University, and had also worked at Imperial College, Princeton and elsewhere in the USA. The picture shows her in her retirement in Florida. Her friends will remember with fondness her joie de vivre, compassion and her occasionally unconventional approach to life! She was an inspiration to many.
Ian and I are walking the Thames Path (180 miles) in stages (from the Barrier in London to the source in the Cotswolds) and we are seeking generous sponsorship to raise as much money as possible for the Spinal Unit at Stoke Mandeville in order to enhance the valuable work that is still going on some 6 decades after Antonia was there. Follow us as we walk- we will post our pictures. We have reached Oxford, slightly later than anticipated owing to the terrible spring weather! We are still on course to get to the source this summer, while the Paralympics are still in everyone's mind. Friends Martin and Tim have joined us on some of the stages.
