On 22nd May Miss Eileen M McGarry died peacefully at the age of 102 years.  Headmistress of Charters Towers School, Bexhill on Sea, from 1946 to 1971, she was an inspired teacher and motivator.  She instilled in her girls a strong interest in geography, travel, art and architecture.  The Old Charterian Association in recent years met annually in her village on 1st Saturday of October, the last in 2010.  As a former Headmistress of an international school some of her pupils marked her 100th birthday by sponsoring a girl through secondary school - as her pupils had done when at CTS. Miss McGarry took a keen interest in the Commonwealth Countries League Education Fund and followed the progress of the selected girl sponsored through the Fund, even writing to her in 2010!  We wish to continue the tradition of the "gift of education"  to other young deserving girls and hope that other CTS pupils will join us in remembering a very dear friend in this way.
