Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Celebrating my 60th birthday and starting retirement marks a big change in my life. For me it's time to stop working and start giving, especially my time on a voluntary basis and, of course, I have lots of big plans to keep me busy!
To start me on my retirement journey I am not asking you to give me gifts, but to donate to a charity that has been a huge part of my life for many years and one which I know makes a big difference to girls and young women all around the world - the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
You might not know, but I've been a Brownie, a Girl Guide and a Brownie Guider and made very many enduring friendships, influencing the lives of so many young girls here in England. Regrettably seven years ago I had to give up my Brownie Pack because of my very demanding job, which took me away from home, but the great thing is the legacy that lives on through my own daughter, Hannah, who is now a Brownie Guider, and through all those young girls whose lives I have influenced in some small way. Hannah and I share very many happy memories of guiding -pack holidays and camps cooking for mega-many, of personal challenges like abseiling together for the first time (me aged 40 plus!), of helping others to do their best and of personal sacrifice to help other people.
We have been very priviledged and I would like to think that, in some small way, my 60th birthday gift, of your money, will go to help girls around the world, in less fortunate circumstances, so that they, too, can share the guiding friendship, learn the value of being a good citizen and help build a better future for young girls in their own country.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. I'm hoping to raise £10 for every year up to my retirement. It's a big ask, but it really would make a great difference to me and to many others and set me on the right road to a happy and fulfilling retirment.
