Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run 10K 2018 · 20 May 2018 ·
I ran the 10k for the first time in the Great Manchester Run 2017, as part of the University of Manchester's purple wave. My friends and I raised money for the Red Cross, in support of the victims of last year's terror attack. It was an emotional and amazing experience to be part of, and I am really glad to be running with the purple wave again in 2018, this time as part of the Macmillan Cancer Support team. Just over a year ago now, my beautiful and caring grandma lost her battle with cancer after many months. I am exceedingly grateful to all those at Macmillan who supported my family and my granddad through those hard times. Currently, I am on a year-long biological science placement at a research station in Namaqualand, a desert near the Namibian border in South Africa. It is an unforgettable experience, but I miss my family and my grandma a lot here - and want to give something back to charity in her name. It will also be a personal challenge - this will mean training on the sand dunes and hills around the research station in really high temperatures! Hopefully, I can run the race in a good time raise a lot of money for a fantastic cause (trying to break the sub-50 minute mark!). Anything you can give to help me with my goal would be absolutely amazing! THANK YOU SO MUCH.
