Helen & Douglas House helps local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child who will die prematurely. We are a home from home for our patients and their families, and provide round-the-clock care in a warm, loving environment.

Story

Family & Friends,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you are already aware (as I have been grumbling about it for weeks now), I am participating in a charity bike ride from London to Oxford on 28th September, yes, you did read correctly, London to Oxford, which is a cool 50 miles in a single day!

The idea came about from a BNP Paribas Energy & Infrastructure team building day in June, where we visited Helen & Douglas House to learn more about the charity and how we, as an organisation and as individuals, can support this fantastic hospice. Our team is committed to organising a series of fund-raising events, with a goal of raising £50,000, the charity bike ride is the first of these events.

Helen & Douglas House provides care to terminally ill children and additional support to their families in what must be an incredibly difficult time for any family. I was moved to tears by what I heard and saw that day and as a parent with a young family it has left a lasting impression. So much so, I have signed up to participate in the bike ride, and am currently "in training". Whilst I am known for my love of sport, netball is my game, this cycling malarkey is not as easy as it looks on first inspection. A few training rides in and I realise that the padded seat is not very padded and what appears to be a slight hill requires an awful lot of peddling and effort to get up it.

I have provided much amusement to family and friends in recent weeks who have been closely following my cycling exploits and in exchange I now ask for you to take 5 minutes out of your day to dig deep and donate. Any amount, big or small, will be greatly appreciated and 100% of all donations will go directly to the charity.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Thanks
