Story

An update to my fundraising page

My first target was the 2.5 kilometre swimathon for Marie Curie Cancer Care on April 18th and this was achieved in 1 hour and 27 minutes in Leyton Leisure Lagoon.

Then next was the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 25th April. This proved to be an absolutely fabulous day where all the prior training in the cold, wet, snowy, soggy  months seemed worth it. I achieved a personal best time of 4 hours and 6 minutes. An experience never to be forgotten.

And now its all the stops out for my main goal - the Ironman UK on 1st August in Bolton in Lancashire This is a long distance triathlon consisting of:  swim 2.4 miles in open water (in a lake in Bolton); cycle 112 miles round the countryside of Bolton. Then just in case I haven't had enough of Bolton scenery I will be running a full marathon ( 26.2 miles) around the streets and countryside of Bolton.  I do get asked if all this happens over a few days. The answer is no- the only breaks are the transitions between the events where we have to change from our wetsuits into cycling gear and then out of cycling gear into running gear and zoom away along the marathon course. In other words we have a maximum of 17 hours to complete it. Onwards and upwards with the training!

The charity I have been raising money for is Marie Curie Cancer Care and thanks so much to everyone who has donated.  This charity provides valuable support and funds for nurses treating patients at home. It means patients can stay at home with their loved ones.  It is a vital charity and one day we ourselves may benefit from it for ourselves and our loved ones.

Please help me to raise as much money as possible for Marie Curie. I promise I will continue to commit myself to the training, whatever sacrifices need  to be made. In all weathers. With a smile.  I have created a blog through Realbuzz.com which charts the highs and lows of my training.
