Story
So on the 3rd of July next year, I'll be heading to Tanzania where I will climb Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest point in Africa and highest free-standing mountain in the world - all in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation.
MRF funds research to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, improve survival rates and outcomes. They are deadly diseases that can kill in hours. My target is to raise £2650 for this brilliant charity, and maybe one day meningitis will be a thing of the past!
Meningitis Research Foundation estimates that there are around 3,400 cases of bacterial meningitis and septicaemia every year in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
This means that every day nine people become ill with the diseases. With one in ten people dying, a death will occur almost every day. A further two people will be left with life-altering after effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and multiple amputations. Back in 2009, my dad was hospitalised with viral meningitis for 5 days, and to this day has short term memory problems - but this could be stopped, along with the cases that unlike this one, are fatal or lead to completely life-changing consequences.
All I am asking is that you help me by sponsoring me, as much or as little as you want...anything will be appreciated!! :)
