Story

Hello!

So I decided to run the Great North Run for Diabetes UK, despite the fact that I can't run, to set myself a challenge and raise money for a cause that has supported me since I was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic 17 years ago.

For some reason (I'm blaming a hypo. They make me do weird things) I'm now also cycling from London to Paris - 200 miles - six days before the GNR. I thought it might humour you for this cake/wine/sofa-loving person to temporarily masquerade as an athlete in training.

Type 1 Diabetes is a life-long illness that has to be managed on a day-by-day, minute-by-minute basis with multiple daily injections, countless blood tests and other nasty bits and bobs. Diabetes is life-threatening if not treated properly over a long period of time. Other friendly options include going blind or losing limbs. Diabetes UK works to raise awareness of the illness, and ultimately to find a cure.

I wang on about my Type 1 existence at http://missjengrieves.com with the aim of encouraging others to be more open about life with the disease, particularly young females who often find it isolating.
