Story

I'm off on an arctic adventure! Please support me as I aim to get fit and raise £3000 for the Dogs Trust Arctic Dog Sledding Challenge 2010. In February, I will travel to the arctic tundra of Sweden to take charge of my own team of Alaskan Huskies. Nine other team members and I will cover up to 40km a day for a week, trekking across frozen lakes and dodging herds of reindeer. This will be a challenge on two levels: I have to get fit (yikes!), and creatively reach out to friends and family to raise the money (double yikes!).

As you know, I'm a dog lover and this challenge particularly appealed to me because of the Dogs Trust charity. The Dogs Trust, started in 1891, is the UK's largest dog welfare charity. In 2009 they have re-homed 4518 dogs, with 1700 dogs still waiting for homes. Importantly, they never put a healthy dog down. They aim to re-home all the stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs that end up in their shelters.

The Dogs Trust has a few ways they help dogs find new homes. The Dedicated Training Centre offers one to one training, the Dogmobile travels to fairs and markets around Britain showing people how great rescue dogs can be, and the Home from Home programme allows stressed dogs to have a break from long-term kennelling. For the dogs that don't find families, the Trust's Sanctuary provides freedom, shelter and human contact, ensuring these dogs lead a happy and contented life.

And here's where I ask for some money! Whatever amount you are able to give will be very appreciated, no matter how small. Your contributions cover the cost of the trip and a lump sum donation to the Dogs Trust. Along with the Just Giving website, I have a number of other fundraising activities, events and projects in the works to ensure I meet my goal.

So even if you aren't much of a dog lover, or you only tolerate Boris and Monty (surely not!), I hope you'll give a little just because you're fond of little old me!

Please visit my blog A Very Cold Adventure for updates on training and fundraising and to cheer me on! You might even find some entertaining photos and videos. Who knows!

Thanks for your support!

Jenny
