On 20th September I plan, along with four others, to run the Berlin Marathon for charity. The cause I have chosen is the Kidney Dialysis Appeal which aims to raise £120,000 for the Borders Dialysis Unit at the Borders General Hospital. All of the money I raise will go to this Appeal.
The money raised will fund a variety of extra enhancements for patients, including extra bays, additional equipment, soft furnishings and other patient comforts. Dialysis patients who are currently being treated in the unit will be consulted on how the appeal funds are spent.
Why this Appeal?
Well I have a cousin who unbelievably has been through the trauma of two kidney transplants, one when he was little and one more recently. So I have been able to see the difference a local unit can have on the quality of his life and quite literally it has been a lifesaver.
