Hello there,
I am a supporter and employee of the Bromley Autistic Trust, which is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of those diagnosed on the autistic spectrum by providing services such as 1:1 lifestyle and/or residential support.
Due to the recent
global financial crisis, donations and funding for the Bromley Autistic
Trust along with many other charities have been affected and our
experiencing cuts in their budget. Around 2.3 million people are
affected by autism. This includes family
members and professionals involved in the care and support of people
with autism (retrieved from National Autistic Society website, 2010).
You can find out more about autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) here.
Bromley Autistic Trust is committed to improving the quality of life of people of all ages with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and supporting those who care for them. It provides assistance both for families with an autistic child and adults with autism or Asperger Syndrome.
The Trust was established in 1981. We provide assistance both for families with an autistic child and for adults with autism or Asperger Syndrome. As a result of dedicated and sustained efforts, the Trust now has three registered homes, four supported living flats and a day service for up to 16 adults with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. We also run a Family Support Service which is helping or has helped at least 600 families. Furthermore there is a well-based and respected programme raising public and professional awareness of the needs of people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
A "Youth Club" for 18-25 year old adults with ASD's living in the Borough is held on Wednesday evenings between 7 pm - 9 pm. We also run monthly activities and outings for the members who attend which is all paid for by the trust. All of this however costs money, and recently we have experienced a shortfall in our budget for this service, which is a shame as we really want to continue to provide an excellent service for the members who attend. The youth club functions as a safe, friendly and fun environment for adults with ASD's to learn and develop the confidence and interpersonal skills vital for personal and social wellbeing. As I work directly with the youth club, I will ensure that all proceeds will go towards funding of equipment, outings and activities for all members.
Please donate as little or as much you like and forward this page to your friends, we would be very grateful to receive your support! You can make a difference.
