On 11 July - the day of the final of the 2010 World Cup - another name will be added to sporting immortality, as I run the British 10K London Run.
OK, not the longest of distances, but it's by far the longest that I have attempted - I used to get a stitch running the 200 metres - and so all support will be gratefully and emotionally received.
The race begins at 9.35am and, with the football beginning at 7.30pm, I expect to have completed the run and to be comfortably sat in my armchair by half time at the very latest.
As well as for posterity, I will also be running for British ORT, the British fundraising arm of World ORT, an international, not-for-profit education and training organisation, which concentrates on science and technology education in order to combat poverty and to give disadvantaged communities the means to become self-sufficient. World ORT has helped people in over 100 countries all over the world, building schools, universities, laboratories and IT centres, as well as developing curricula, educational resources and teaching aids. 2010 also happens to be the 130th anniversary of ORT's creation, so what better way to say happy birthday than to make a kind donation!
