Bath Half Marathon 2015 · 1 March 2015 ·
Join The Cator Troops as we run four half marathons in four continents to raise money for Cancer Research UK and help Dad on his road to recovery!
What started as the ambitious challenge of running The Bath Half in support of Cancer Research UK has spiraled with the energy from an almost overwhelming amount of support from friends and family around the world into something much bigger. On 1st March 2015 there will now be an international relay of 186 runners, running on 4 Continents, in 6 different countries, covering a staggering 81 miles.
As many of you know Dad was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in August. We have since found out that it is an aggressive form of Blastoid Mantle Cell Lymphoma - as Dad has it, "the Norfolk way of saying blasted!" He is now looking at having a bone marrow transplant next year, and various other evil sounding drugs to help him keep it under control. This is a rare form of cancer and research is ongoing, to develop a new and more effective form of treatment and there are drugs in the pipeline that may offer hope for a cure in the future. “Cancer Research UK” is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer and so we have decided to raise money for them and “Stem Cell Research” to help Charlie on his road to recovery.
Join The Cator Troops to make the 1st March 2015 a day to remember, and an event that will make a huge impact on a charity helping not just our Dad but the 400 people diagnosed with cancer in the UK every day.
Kicking off our global marathon relay will be Oscar and the Aussie Cator’s in Australia for the first leg of the international relay.
Next the baton is passed to Hong Kong, Rosanna Cator has rallied together her loyal friends to field a staggering 65 runners, who will be battling the hills and heat of Hong Kong to complete the second leg of this challenge.
Thence the baton will be passed to Bath where the home team will be waiting to join the “Bath Half” accompanied by a staggering 76 friends and family runners who have already signed up and many more team followers. Mum's sister Sarah kicking off a family fun run in Ireland at the same time.
Next the baton speeds over the Atlantic to Vancouver Island where it will be passed to Charlie’s niece Annabel, who is married to Canadian author David Wilson, who will both be running along with 15 friends, two of which are Lymphoma survivors themselves! The final run to complete this great fund raising enterprise will be by another Aunt Harriet running with two friends, further down the coast in California as the sun sets over the Pacific.
Please support this intrepid endeavor and sponsor all the runners by donating to our joint JustGiving Page.
With love and thanks from Cator’s one and all xxx
