EMERGENCY provides free, high-quality care to people affected by conflict and poverty. We do this in a sustainable way: building healthcare facilities, training local personnel, and conducting search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean Sea. More information at: www.emergencyuk.org

Story

So, for my 21st birthday this year instead of getting drunk out of my face and ending up in a karaoke bar at 3am I'll be running the Great Manchester Run which is, coincidently, on the day of my birthday.

Anyone who knows me will know that I'm not a big fitness freak- just dragging myself out of bed to go to the gym is hard enough. However I wanted to run for a charity whose work I really support- Emergency UK, an independent and humanitarian organization that provides free medical and surgical treatment to victims of war, landmines and poverty.

So anyway- instead of asking for birthday presents this year I'm asking my friends and family to donate instead. And if you fancy donating yourself then that would be great.
