Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'd been in the mood for doing something really silly for quite a while now, so I've signed up to run 10km in the Great Yorkshire Run on 6th September.  It's my first ever long race.  At first, I was a little apprehensive but as it gets closer, I'm actually beginning to look forward to it.  Whether this is sensible or not - only time will tell.

The big day
I managed to exceed all expectations.  I thought, as I came up the long slog past Ponds Forge, that I might have got under 60 minutes.  When the times went on the race website, I had done 10km in 55 minutes 27 seconds.  To say I was pleased would be a massive understatement.  Combined with getting (to date) well over £200 in sponsorship just made it all the better.  Thanks to all who sponsored me.

And the most bizarre bit?  I enjoyed every minute and have already entered another race.  Looks like the weekend never stopped.....

Latest
30-8-2009  My last 10km before the big one and I managed it in 61 minutes.  Damflask Reservoir went past in a blur.....  The sponsorship is coming along nicely.  Please tell all your friends that they can donate online, very easily.

8-2009
Still creaking a wee bit from Sunday but chanced another 3km tonight after work.  Managed it in 20 minutes, which I'm very happy with.

And the paperwork has arrived from The Great Yorkshire Run organisers,
so I have my number - 4899.

23-8-2009  I did two circuits of Damflask reservoir (10km) today in 69 minutes.  And, although I feel like death slightly warmed up today, I think I'm going to be OK on the day.

Training
I've been doing 3-5km runs in training and, so far, I'm managing around 7minutes per km.  Not fast, but not bad for an old man.  From this week, I'm intending to start longer runs.  I'll post a note when I know how I've done.

Why sponsor me?
I decided that, as I'm going to do this race, there might as well be a positive benefit.  I've long supported the work of Survival International, which campaigns for the rights of tribal peoples throughout the world.  The work of Survival has never been more vital and you can be sure that your money will be going to a good cause that really does make a difference.

If you' like to know more, have a look at Survival's web site at http://www.survival-international.org.

So please dig deep and donate now!
