My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you will know I am partial to the odd drink now and again which has got me into one or two situations over the years. Well the demon drink has struck again, after a few sherberts I signed up for a cycle trip from London to Amsterdam. I've done various cycling trips before with my mates (photographic evidence attached), this time though it's in aid of charity, namely The London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy.

A friend of mine introduced me to the charity through various charity golf days I've attended over the years.

It's based in Muswell Hill in North London and is the only centre and school for children with cerebral palsy in London that is approved by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and has been providing its servies since it's inauguration in 1963 (then as the Hornsey Trust).

Cerebral palsy affects 1 in 400 children and is a non-progressive, incurable condition that happens because of an injury to the brain before, during or after birth which results in impairment to voluntary movement and co-ordination.

The centre allows around 50 children each week from birth to 11 years to attend and recieve intensive therapy and education. It differs from other similar centres in that it teaches by an approach known as conductive education which through constant guidance, motivation and encouragement helps children to learn to do as much as possible for themselves without using aids and equipment.

Each year the centre needs to raise £250,000 from donations and grants to remain operational so hopefully with your help i'll be able to raise a little bit towards that.

The trip takes place from September 4th to the 8th so as usual i've planned well in advance! I'm paying for all the travel costs (not even i can cycle across the North Sea) so every penny you pledge will go straight to the charity.

All help much appreciated.

Cheers

Jim
