Dear Family or Friend,
I'm honoured that you have taken the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This page has been set up by me Jim, Lua Rajan's Dad. Lua had treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Kingston Hospital after she was diagnosed with Bilateral Wilm's Tumour in August 2010, a form of cancer affecting both kidneys.
We as a family have felt so well cared for, protected and supported by these two hospitals that we feel it's very important to give something back and so I'm starting my fund raising efforts (the first of many!) by raising money for Momentum (Cancer support charity associated with Kingston Hospital Childrens Dept) by doing the London to Brighton Bike ride. It's 56 miles. Lua and I would be so grateful if you could spend a moment to donate some money to our cause.
Momentum are trying to setup a special treatment room in which to treat children on chemotherapy at Kingston hospital and so I'd like all donations will go to them. They have been very supportive to Maria and I, and many other families. They offer support to parents, have had wonderful murals painted in the hospital isolation rooms and do a great job of making treatment less unpleasant for the kids. They also help make endless hospital visits easier and more bearable.
Lua is now 2 years old and doing incredibly well. She is still not completely 'cured' but well on the way, and her chemotherapy finished in January. It is amazing how well she has coped with her treatment. I feel so strongly that anything I can do to help those who have helped us, I will do.
Please, please donate what you can so that other children will have the opportunity to have the fantastic level of care that Lua has had.
The London to Brighton Bike ride is in June, and I would like to raise £25,000 for Momentum. As a small charity (just run by 3 women) not many people are likely to hear of them, unless they need their help. I hope this first sponsored event I undertake will raise awareness of those smaller charities you might not hear of, but whose work directly affects the lives of families so strongly.
No donation is too big or too small. And, please tick the Gift Aid box if you feel happy to. Thank you so so much.
Love,
Jim and Lua.xx
