Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After my hugely successful fundraiser last year – The Granite Mile – I was very privileged to have been nominated by the Scottish Rugby Union for my own ‘ Sporting Chance’

After much deliberation and soul searching I decided that others too could benefit from my good fortune.

I proposed the idea of a wheelchair curling team, with me as Skip, to play against David Murdoch – pin up boy of Scottish curling, and his rink who won Gold at last year’s World Championships.

Give Them A Sporting Chance embraced this idea and using their incredible organisational skills, for which I am indebted, have arranged a match.

Venue – the new Ice Rink and complex at ‘The Peak’, Stirling FK7 7UJ.

 Time – 1pm on Friday 4th September, 2009.

Whilst a daunting challenge for my competitive team we intend to enjoy the event and indeed ‘feast’ on the ice!

This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone interested to come and watch a wonderful spectacle of curling and indeed perhaps thereafter consider participating in this fantastic sport at whatever level they feel comfortable.

Not one to miss the opportunity of raising some cash for charity and being part of the GTASC Charity remit I have decided to raise funds prior to the event and on the day to support The Big Build Appeal – creating A New Marie Curie Hospice for Glasgow.

My Dad died of cancer 20 years ago and as I am employed with Marie Curie Cancer Care I feel this is an appropriate cause and hope you will support the team and the appeal.

At this juncture I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone at Give Them A Sporting Chance for making this ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ a reality, David Hay the Men's Olympic Curling Coach for excellent communication and his endeavour,Team Murdoch for rising to the challenge whilst preparing to compete for places in the GB Team at the Winter Olympics next year,  110sport, the team's management company, for their investment at Active Stirling and the event, Judy MacKenzie my coach and mentor, Bruichladdich Distillery Company Limited my team sponsors who have shown incredible generosity in donating gifts for our opponents and indeed all my friends and family who have shown me unstinting support. Last but not least my Kelvinside Academical Curling Club team mates who have shown me patience/fun/understanding and comradeship since I started curling 5 years ago.

Please support me to help promote a great sport and at the same time raise funds for a Charity which has touched many.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and find a pound to get the Hospice off the ground!

Many thanks

Jim
