Story

Race Day
We cannot thank you enough for your amazing generosity. Iain had a nightmare, was running really well until 6k when his calf muscle pulled, he limped to finish in 51 mins 22seconds, so who knows what he would have done if healthy.  He should of course pay your donations now!
Luis did 50 mins 40 seconds, a phenomenal effort for a man who did next to no training, 19th in his group!
Jo was over the moon with 47.56, 12th in her group, 55th overall, even with a broken toe and a knackered back.  She's having her first drink in 22 days so this may all be gibberish.
We thank you again for your fantastic generosity and give all our love and prayers to the people of Haiti.

Jo may have broken a toe and Iain thinks he has pulled a calf muscle so the wheels have fallen off the last week of strategically planned training.  Luckily Luis is still fighting fit! They're still planning to hobble over the finish line. And a note to my slightly more impoverished friends, do not be put off the huge sums being donated by Iain and Luis's colleagues! Every little helps!
You will have undoubtedly seen in the news that on Tuesday 12th January a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, including the densely populated capital Port-au-Prince. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, greatly increasing the chances that people will die in the aftermath of a natural disaster and with the quake hitting at 4.53 PM local time, the start of rush hour when Port-au-Prince’s narrow streets are filled with commuters and school children, it probably couldn’t have struck at a worse time. It’s feared the death toll will rise above 100,000.

Slums, hotels and embassies alike have been levelled. The infrastructure - such as it is - has been disrupted and a massive humanitarian aid effort has begun to ensure survivors - including the not insubstantial number of charity workers already in the region - get food, clean water, emergency shelter, medical care and other support.

Iain, Luis and I are running the 10K on Friday to raise some cash for this terrible disaster.  Iain has been doing some amazing training and is hoping to crack 45 minutes.  My back is still not great (I may never  dance professionally again) but hope to wince home in under 50 minutes again. Luis Rapallo is also running and any money he raises he will put to this charity.  Luis is not making any predictions on his time.  In his words he "hopes to finish sometime on the Friday!".
