Joan Loughrey is raising money for Age UK

Participants: Andrew Molly and Fergus will be there in a support role even though it means they have to get up at 7.30 am on a Sunday morning (OK, so the kids weren't exactly thrilled about this)

Story

Back in the halcyon days of summer, volunteering to do this run seemed like a great idea. As the weather has changed, the nights have drawn is, a nasty cold in late September and with the recent torrential rains, the whole thing took on a new aspect and that aspect was pretty scary. Also, reading running club web-sites which said things like -for a first race start with a 5 km, or if you are doing a 10km make sure you have run at least 8km beforehand worried me slighly as this is a 10km race and I'm pretty sure that I haven't done 8 km anytime in the last 10 years. Anyway, if you are reading this then I completed the race at least, as I kept the whole thing a closely guarded secret until I was sure it was worth you giving me your money!!

I am supporting Age Concern because older people do not always get the help and services they need.

Thanks for visiting and for sponsoring-it is very greatly appreciated.

PS Whoo-hoo! Finished. This was my first 10km run ever (and probably the last) and I am delighted to have achieved a PB (personal best, as real runners say) of an hour or thereabouts. And yes, it was cold wet and the wind was blowing in the wrong direction. 8,000 people took part and I beat some of them, but not the man who was running and juggling at the same time.
