Great Wilderness Challenge · 22 August 2009

Highland Hospice provides specialist care and support to terminally ill patients and their families in the Highlands. We have an In Patient Unit in Inverness, provide day care across the region and offer bereavement counselling for relatives. We aim to provide dignity when time matters most.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  This is an update.  I made it! As did all of our Muir of Ord jogscotland group.  It was tough!  The 'bad bog' was very bad and we all have bog tales to tell.  I am still collecting sponsorship, but when I have it all in, I'll get in touch again to let you know my final total.  I'll keep this site open and up to date for a few weeks.  Thanks for all you support and sponsorship.

Last year I ran the Great Wilderness Challenge from Aultbea to Poolewe with Esther Lees.  The photo shows me at the end of the 13 miles this year which had taken me up rough tracks to Fionn Loch, over a 2 mile bog, then on an undulating estate track to Poolewe.  This was my 4th time taking part.   Sadly last year it was to be Esther's first and last.  She died just 6 months later in Highland Hospice.

Esther had been a member of the Muir of Ord jogscotland group.  19 other members of our jogging group took part this year in Esther's memory.   Before she died Esther knew of our plans and said she would be with us, in spirit, every mile of the way.  It was an emotional journey for us all.

I hope to raise a lot of money for Highland Hospice.  The Hospice staff have cared for several of my friends and their families during the past 2 years.  I was thinking especially of Esther, Sheelagh and Harry as I ran on August 22nd.
