Shakespeare may have asked "what's in a name?" but I guess we're more accustomed to questioning what's in a number? If I ask you what 5545 means to you, it's possible that you might say FTSE or DAX at year end, with a little luck! My response is that it's the height I will reach on my impending trek to Everest Base Camp. I will then have my first experience of crampons and ice axes as I head on for another 4 days to attempt to scale a 6500m so-called "trekking peak", whatever that might mean!

While the trip is a fun challenge and, naturally, is 100% funded by me, it has been suggested that I do it for charity. Many of you very kindly sponsored my 10k run on 10/10/10 in aid of the first children's hospice, Helen & Douglas House. It is a tragic turn of fate that not all children make it to 10. On behalf of all of the famillies who are touched by the tremendous respite and palliative care offered by Helen House, I would ask you to reflect on what really constitutes a bad day and make every metre count. My school motto was "Aim High" so here's to a £5545 target. Your support will be deeply appreciated and will make every huff and puff count.
