I aim to complete the 26.2 miles of the Virgin London Marathon 2010, running to raise money and awareness for this fantastic charity. This is my second time running the London Marathon in aid of a worth while cause and I aim to actively involve the students of Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form and Tameside College in Manchester, to help raise awareness and money for disabled children in sport, promote a healthy active lifestyle and inspire students to participate in major events in the future.
This year the charity I'm running for is Get Kids Going, a National charity which gives disabled children and young people the opportunity to participate in sport. Get Kids Going provides specially built sports’ wheelchairs so they can do marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, mountain skiing, rugby, basketball etc. Get Kids Going! also helps and encourages British disabled children to compete by supporting them with their sports; training, physiotherapy, travel, design and development of sports’ wheelchairs. With your help many could become record holders and Paralympic champions! Over 200,000 disabled children and young people in Britain need the help of Get Kids Going! They desperately want special manual wheelchairs, trikes and other mobility equipment. Also another 50,000 disabled children and youngsters need sports wheelchairs to let them compete in their chosen sport. With you help this year I'm aiming to raise £2,000 for Get Kids Going. That's 2/3rds of a sports wheelchair (£3,000)/the total cost to provide a disabled child or young person with a lightweight manual wheelchair (£2,000).
Marathon Facts!
Irina Mikitenko was the fastest female finisher over the line in 2009 (2: 22: 22), Samuel, Wanjiru (2:05:10), Kurt Fearney the fastest wheelchair athlete in 1: 28:56, the slowest finisher is Lloyd Scott completed the 2002 London marathon wearing a 110 lb deep-sea diving suit (five days and eight hours) and the fastest man to run and finish in a Santa suit crossed the line on 3:12:27! On the day: 710,000 bottles of water will be distributed throughout the race, 950 portable toilets available, 500 stretchers, 20,900 meters of barriers, 68 ambulances, 300 liters of blue paint to paint the line on the course that represents the shortest distance. Still not convinced to donate the pennies I will burn over 2,880 calories, take 51,214 steps, run 26.2 miles or 42.2 km, that’s over 26, 353 of me laid head to toe, the length of 10541 mini coopers or the length of a London bound train with 2002 carriages! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Over the next few months I will be wrapping myself up in winter woollies and taking to the streets of Manchester in sub-zero temperatures, wind, rain and everything nature throws at me in order to rack up the training miles. Every penny donated will help keep me going. Plus there will be lots of planned events taking place over the next few months so check back to this page to see what’s going on. Please dig deep and donate now, every single penny really does count. Thank you for your support.
