Belfast Marathon · 7 May 2012 ·

Our aim is wellbeing for all. We work together with people living with mental ill health, intellectual disability, autism and addiction to ensure they live with dignity. We campaign to create a society free from stigma and discrimination that focuses on people and their abilities.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Dr Graeme Mc Donald died in Novemeber 2010. Among his many major achievements he was particularly proud of the development in Malawi of the Vwira Mental Health Project which is led by the Northern Ireland Association for Mental Health (of which Graeme was chair) in partnership with local Presbyterian and Catholic church groups.

The project employs two nurses who work with the severely mentally ill. The nurses link closely with village head men and traditional healers and, against a background in which those with severe mental illness have often been ignored and at times even mistreated, they make a real difference to the lives of highly disadvantaged people.

All money raised will go directly into the further development of this innovative and vital service. There can be no better way of honouring the memory of Graeme than to support this cause.
