Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Retinitus Pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited eye disease affecting around 25,000 people in the UK and around two million worldwide RP is now recognised as one of the most common causes of loss of vision in people of working age. However RP can arise and be diagnosed at any age but most often it is seen in teenagers and occasionally younger children and babies.  The first symptoms of RP are night blindness and loss of peripheral vision (tunnel vision) and in many cases can lead to total blindness.    At present there is no treatment available for RP, however medical researchers around the world have made significant progress in areas such as gene therapy, stem cell therapy and artificial retinal implants in recent years and remain optimistic that a treatment or cure will be found.  We need YOUR HELP in making this possible!   I will be part of a team of  20 intrepid walkers who are undertaking the Wainwright Walk in August to help raise funds for research.  This is nearly 200 miles coast to coast over ten days, starting in St Bees in Cumbria and finishing in Yorkshire (Robin Hood’s Bay).  This will be a test of strength and endurance for all participants, many like myself who have little or no vision left, which will make it an even bigger challenge.   Please help us to raise very much needed funds.   Thank you for your donation.   Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
