This year I have decided to enter myself for the Great London Swim. The swim takes place on 15th August and leaves from the Royal Victoria Docks, on a course that will take me around the O2 arena and Canary Wharf. This is a chance to prove to myself that my aquatic abilities stretch further than merely being able to drink like a fish!!
Not only is this a unique opportunity to swim in the murky waters of the River Thames, against the backdrop of a London Skyline, but it is also an opportunity to raise some money for a cause for which I feel very passionately.... For those of you that know me well, you'll be aware that I have a rather large obssession with orangutans. I am going to Borneo next year in the hopes of seeing some orangutans in their natural habitat. However, rainforest clearing has resulted in a massive decline in the orangutan population and has made sightings increasingly rare. I HAVE TO SEE SOME ORANGUTANS, so please help me by giving generously to my charity of choice - The Orangutan Foundation.
The Orangutan Foundation is the world's foremost orangutan conservation organisation.They work to save these endangered apes by protecting their tropical forest habitat, working with local communities, and promoting research and education. Their primary aim is to keep orangutans in their natural habitat, but they do also run a centre caring for orphaned and injured orangutans. I hope you agree with me that saving these beautfiul creatures is a very worthwhile cause; so please dig deep.
