Update 22nd of January 2011
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Joe and James Carey are going to Burkina Faso along with Brian and Michael Dolaghan and a few others, a week from today, Saturday 29th of January.
Joe:
International Needs UK is a Christian charity who are building a cottage hospital in Bobo Dioulasso (close your eyes now and spell that right the first time!!) in Burkina. If you go to their website http://www.ineeds.org.uk/#/medical-centre-in-burkina-faso/4533504877 you can see more detail on this and how just under half of the money is now raised. You can also see that the organisation has a school in the area already.
We got involved about two years ago in fund raising for this. Our small team felt that we needed to go to see it so that we could get a sense of what it is like first hand.
The figures for Burkina are staggering - one of the poorest countries in the world with very little going for it and a huge set of needs. Two years is a long time to wait for basic medical treatment if I was depending on it for me or my family.
We aim to go out, and then when back, get on with helping the fundraising to get the hospital up and working. There might be other things we will find out we can do back here, once we get there, if you get my drift. So, we are going to learn.
If you wanted to help this project, that would be fantastic.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
We would also value you praying for us while we are there.
Thank you!
Joe

James:
I'm looking forwards to going and apart from the seven jabs I've already had, getting up very early on Saturday morning at about three, driving to Dublin flying twice and then going on a five hour bus journey in temperatures above thirty five and then the same back the whole thing should all be fine.
