10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to look at my fund raising page!

In 2012 my Youngest daughter (Now 4 years old) was diagnosed with Ataxia by a GP, the definition of Ataxia is the loss of full control of bodily movements but the reality of this is much much worse than that, and in some cases can limit life expectancy to as little as 10 years of age.  My daughter was confirmed as having a chromosome imbalance on cromosome 18 in August of 2013, this part of the genetic make up has been linked to spinocerebellar Ataxia and Spastic Ataxia, however this type of imbalance is extremely rare and the prognosis at this point is unknown, we are still waiting on answers as to what this means for Lilly and we simply do not know what the future holds for her.  Throughout the last year I have researched Ataxia in great depth, there is currently no cure and no goverment funding for research and to find a cure so in May this year I decided I wanted to play my part in helping find a cure and decided to take on the Mammoth tast of running a Marathon so I applied to Ataxia UK to run the Marathon on behalf of them as a charity.  I have been lucky enough to be selected and offered one of three spaces to Run for Ataxia UK, and I promise every single person who donates to my page that I will give it everything I have to complete the 26 Miles for this great cause.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and thank you for donating and playing a part in helping familes like my own to find a cure for this terrible condition.  Speaking from personal experience, it is extremely heart breaking having to face the possible reality of what this can do to a person.
