As one of the charity committee members of my firm I had the pleasure of listening to Age International's representatives make their case as to why they believe that we as a firm should become one of their corporate sponsors. I came out of that meeting with a new found respect for some of the problems our elderly population face and was deeply moved by the work that Age International do and the help they provide to this so often "forgotten" generation.

In the UK the money raised by Age International is spent improving insulation in homes, providing advice on areas such as powers of attorney, pensions and benefits and organising social events such as coffee mornings and “walking football”, among other activities. In less developed countries, they provide humanitarian aid to the elderly, start-up business grants to help them make a living where no pension is available and safe accommodation and food in emergency situations.

I will be taking part in a brutal 18km obstacle course, tracking through mud, and hurdling over all hindrances that come my way, (including my fellow competitors), all in the name of charity.
