Lands End to John O'Groats - Joe, Charlie and James · 3 May 2013

Today, 1,890 babies will be born in Malawi. 320 will become orphans. 87 will die before their first birthday from malnutrition or illness. We provide essential care for Malawi's orphaned and abandoned children, giving them the chance to achieve their potential within the love and security of a home.

Story

We, Joe and Charlie Dawson are taking on the challenge of this bike ride to raise funds for Open Arms, Malawi, along with our friend James Horner.   Our family has been involved in fundraising for this orphanage since I (Joe) visited in 2009 and saw first hand the amazing work that is done here.   In 2011 our brother Mattie also visited and took across supplies for the orphanage paid for with monies from organised fundraising by us personally and also by the parents and children of our family business, Children's Corner Childcare.   Charlie is hoping to visit in 2015.

The two orphanges care for children, mainly orphans, in distress. Many of their parents have died of Aids and there is simply no one to raise the children.  100% of anything you donate will go directly to the children (gift aid is also claimed and a small amount of this gift aid will go to justgiving for operational purposes).  We are covering the cost of the trip ourselves.  So if you donate £10, and sign the gift aid declaration,  then £11.75 will be donated directly to Open Arms.

Various events have been organised over the years but this is the most challenging yet.  We have been training for several months to ensure we can complete the challenge and raise as much money as possible so every single donation matters.

Please help with anything you can.  Make the saddle feel more comfortable for us knowing that we (and you) are helping these children.

Thank you.
