IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire · 14 June 2015 ·
I was an international junior level swimmer until the December of 2014, where I decided I needed to earn some money and get a job. However with fitness and exercise a massive part of who I am I decided I needed a challenge and I felt like a half Ironman was a good place to start. It is also massively rewarding to be helping those struggling with this condition whilst also achieving personal goals.
The difference that this charity makes to children's life is immense. they are entirely life changing. The procedures prevent children being outcast at a young age because of the way they appear or because they can't smile. It helps them feel normal and bosts their self esteem to a point where they can socialise and be as a child should, doing lots of things with lots of friends.
This charity ensures that the families and obviously affected children can travel to the hospital and back and stay, all paid for which is brilliant and it allows the family to go through the journey and surgery together. Smile train also pay for the training and equipment necessary for the surgeries. Just £150 pays for the entire surgery and overnight stay and £30 will cover the overnight stays.
