Sheffield Poem-a-thon for refugees and asylum seekers · 2 April 2016

The relief of those who are seeking refuge and are in conditions of need, hardship or distress. The advancement of the education of the public, and organisations (statutory and voluntary) to assist the inclusion of such inhabitants into the wider community

Story

Personally I've benefitted enormously from the example of Tibetans who had to flee their homeland after the Chinese invasion. These people, despite adversity, maintained an unkillable sense of humour and have made much of their lives despite adversity. So my story is about the opportunity for enrichment that comes from cultural exchange. I'm sure that, given a little initial help, new settlers to the UK and to Sheffield will do the same.
