Story
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes place in the Yorkshire Dales National Park which is dominated by the wild peaks of Pen-y-ghent (694 metre), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres).
The Challenge is to follow a circular route of 25 miles over these three peaks in 12 hours or less, starting and finishing in the picturesque village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale. I have been building up from my current 8-10 mile walks in the Cotswolds to this 25 mile epic over the last 6 months and hope to complete the Challenge well within the 12 hour target! Let me know if you want to join us - this is a great opportunity to see the Dales and help Epilepsy Action.
I recently went to the Dales and walked Pen-y-Ghen but my time was hopeless, taking 6 hours to cover the 10 miles or so. I'm back on the 28th June to do Whernside & Ingleborough on one day and Pen-y-Ghent again on another - we'll see!
I am putting myself though this Challenge so that I can raise money for Epilepsy Action, a charity which supports and helps those affected by epilepsy – sufferers, families, employers - as well as promoting a better understanding of its causes & impacts and campaigning for changes in attitudes to epilepsy. Epilepsy is the UK’s most common serious neurological condition affecting an estimated 1 in 131 people – my son Ryan suffers from epilepsy and needs daily medication to manage it. Last December, a young man I knew, Lee Johnson, died during a seizure, leaving family and friends devastated and searching for answers. Epilepsy Action helps over 550,000, people every year through its range of services including its advice and information centre, branch network and accredited volunteer scheme. The organisation’s award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk, receives over 100,000 visitors a month – please visit for further information on where your hard earned cash would be going. Your donation will help them!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
