Update - Wed. 22.June 2011:-
- I completed on sunday 19.June 2011 the UK Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in 6hrs 12min. It found it a tough race. I have to admit being very disappointed personally with my time, but i can assure you it was hard earned thru to the finish. I had a poor swim and caught bad cramps getting out of the cold water, the cramps in my forearms and abdominals were rather a surprise! ...this set me up badly for my cycling which i started already 10min down from last year, and i was not aggressive enough thru the cycle, very conscious to try save the legs from cramping up on the run. The complete results are now posted on the uk ironman 70.3 website:
http://www.ironmanuk.com/uk-ironman-703/results
I was 47min swim (+7min compared to last year)
Cycle was 3hr:25min (+20min with last year)
Run 1hr.46min (+6min. last year)
Overall i was 377th position (135 last year)
So on a personal level i am dissappointed, but that is small potatoes in the bigger scheme of things. And at least my efforts have contributed something towards a good cause.
I am sincerely thankful to all those who have taken an interest to support me and make a donation.
This webpage will be open for some weeks yet, so to those who were a little late to become informed of my challenge, it is still possible to chip in a little donation to the charity.
For me, i have to reconcile if it would be just ego and pride which motovate me to try again next year. There are many other challenges in life where my effort could be more productively channelled. The charity was my motivation for this year but it does seem to detract the focus from being a ruthless competitor in the race. I was being cautious to make sure i would finish, so i think i saved the legs a bit thru the cycle worrying about the run.
My biggest admiration remains not for the fast guys, but the for the regular non-atheletes who were remaining out on the run course until past 8hrs overall. I got a taste of that suffering myself this time round.

This year on 19th June 2011 will be my 3rd attempt at this, the 'toughest Ironman70.3 in the world' event.

My fist ever triathlon was this event in 2009 and i finished in 5hrs 48min. Last year i sorted out in advance which underpants and socks to wear after the swimming and i improved my time to 5hrs 35min. placing me 135th overall.
For this year i was hoping to make the journey for more than just an ego trip, so i entered as a Rotary Charity fundraiser.
I have chosen the childrens Cancer charity CLIC Sargent as the main benefiting charity. No matter how hard this triathlon stuff might seem, it is only a temporary and miniscule trifle compared to a family being told their young kid has cancer. I have been fortunate so far in life. I need not waffle any further. It is simply a genuine good cause.
