A few of us, friends from school and 50 this year, decided to celebrate this milestone with a fundraising trek up Kilimanjaro at the end of August. After all, we thought, how hard can it be? The answer is HARD! But as one bright spark said "The harder the challenge; the more money we'll raise". Here's hoping!
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, (and at 5,895m the highest free standing mountain in the world), and we are attempting the toughest route.
However, we’re undertaking this escapade for a very special reason. One of our party is the father of Theo, a fantastic little boy, who was born with Down syndrome. All of us involved in the climb are raising funds for "Down Syndrome Extra 21", a charity that provides much needed help and support for those with Down syndrome and their families. As a party, we’re hoping to raise £10,000, which will make a huge difference.
Every penny contributed will go to the charity as we’re paying for everything ourselves, including putting ourselves back together again…
