We are walking and running the Beachy Head Marathon on the 24th October. It's one of the biggest off-road marathons in the UK, a tough 26 mile route through the South Downs National park finishing with the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head hills. 

We are hoping to raise funds to buy 4 additional cages for the Orphan Bird Room at the East Sussex WRAS Casualty Care Centre.

We would like to buy these cages with a central divider which enable easy cleaning, with minimum stress for the birds, and provide the space for the babies to gain strength before they are transferred to an outdoor aviary. Helping to give them the best chance of surviving when finally soft released back to the wild.

The orphan birds are often from disturbed nests and this year we hand reared over 75 birds included wrens, robins, dunnocks, blackbirds, finches, sparrows, starlings and thrushes which otherwise would not have survived. Hand rearing is a dedicated process and involves regular feeding from 7am till 10pm, 7 days a week. It's carried out by a team of volunteers in shifts during the 6 month breeding season, from May to September.
