Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

In June 2015, shortly after his 30th birthday, our friend David Greaves, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is a horrific disease that attacks the motor neurones (the nerves that control movement). Muscles stop working leaving many people unable to move, talk, swallow and eventually breathe.

Shockingly a person’s risk of developing MND can be as high as 1 in 300.

At present there is no cure.

MND kills and more than half of people affected within two years of diagnosis.

Despite such a devastating diagnosis, Dave has maintained a hugely positive attitude throughout. A few months after his diagnosis he became a published author, penning the hugely popular children’s novel, ‘The Homeless Bumblebee’, for charity ‘Friends of the Earth’. In December last year Dave battled the effects of MND to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to 4,600m with his wife Philippa, raising over £12,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association improves care and support for people with MND, campaigns and raises awareness for the needs of people with MND and funds vital research that will bring us closer to a cure.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Thank you for any help you are able to give to our fundraising effort, to Dave, and to the MNDA.
