In memory of Roy Richards

The Beacon helps local people affected by cancer and other serious, long-term illnesses. It is hugely stressful for a family when someone they love is very ill, and we offer a wide range of services from psychology workshops to aromatherapy to help patients and their families cope with what is happening.

Story

Thanks for visiting Roy's page. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on donations by UK taxpayer.

Roy Richards died on 18th December with his family gathered around him. Roy had fought a long and brave battle against cancer for some ten years. Over the last year the cancer had taken more of a grip so that everyday life had become more difficult. To their immense credit, Debbie and the family ensured that Roy stayed at his home throughout the closing months.  I know from Debbie that his last hours were peaceful.

Roy was a major part of our lives and we will all miss him. Roy was 58 in July. He was very proud of his three children Katie, Gemma and Jamie. His refusal to bow to the illness meant that he saw all three grow up and start their careers.

It is a really painful time for Debbie and the family as they come to terms with his passing, however they will gain strength from Roy’s determination and fight over the last few months.  Debbie has arranged a memorial service on10th January 2013 in St Luke's Church in Grayshott.  I can let you know more.

I am sure that we will find occasion to remember him. I know that he was clear that we should continue to live life to the full. I hope that you can find a way to celebrate Roy’s life.

So please dig deep to support a good cause.
