Story

Hi there.  This summer I'm doing a couple of events and thought to raise some money at the same time.  Back in May I ran the Bupa 10k; this weekend, 22nd June I'm attempting the National three peaks.  For those unfamiliar with this event the challenge is to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon all in 24 hours.  I'm doing the challenge with my daughter Hannah, Simon and Ian Parr.  We plan to set off at 0800hrs on Saturday and should be done by 0600hrs Sunday morning; that's the plan anyhow!  Apart from the physical aspect of the challenge we need to travel a total of 470miles to reach our destinations; this in itself will take 10 hours!  The forecast is looking typically miserable so we need as much encouragement we can muster!  Please donate as little or as much as you like.....your kind donations are greatly appreciated.  The following section explains the reason why I have chosen The Christie as my charity.

Like many people The Christie saved my life.

In 2004 I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma! I was admitted into The Christie where I was told I could be fixed with some urgent radiotherapy and chemo – good news.  Having experienced fantastic round the clock care coupled with a cocktail of stuff you don't want to think of I came out the other end feeling soundly optimistic.  The following months were spent rehabilitating and getting over the physical and psychological damage cancer inflicts.

The Christie gave me hope and it was with their help and support I rid the the pesky disease for good.  And here I am, 8 year on, proudly (and stupidly!) climbing the national three peaks in 24hours in aid of The Christie.

Sadly, 1 month ago my mum was diagnosed an identical cancer, unbelievable.  Mum is receiving treatment which I’m sure will save her life too.  I dedicate my climb this weekend to my lovely Mum and wish her well. Please support me with your kind generous donations and help others survive this terrible illness.

Thank you.

My Bupa run

I thoroughly enjoyed participating at the Bupa charity run on what turned out to be hard conditions running midday in the unusual heat.  Fantastic for spectators but less welcoming for fellow runners.  On the day I found the run challenging but thanks to the superb support along the way dug in a pushed to finish the run longer than anticipated in 1hr 8mins.........room for improvement there then!!!  No blisters, injuries etc but there were casualties of the heat towards the end.  I was so thirsty during the race and managed to miss the last watering point towards the end....doh!!! I want to say a very big THANK YOU to you kind folk for your generous donations and support.  The money raised goes towards a brilliant cause and will make a difference to someone somewhere giving hope and care for those less fortunate.  Our next challenge is the national three peaks on the 22nd June where we will climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24hrs.  I'm doing this with Hannah (daughter), Simon Parr and his brother.  Simon is doing the Yorkshire Dales this weekend which I originally planned to do but due to getting a pesky cold this week thought I'd better take it easy!!!  Thanks again and please do stay in touch, your all great guys.
